NMSHE: National Mission For Sustaining The Himalayan Ecosystem

Context

Ministry of Science and Technology has been charged with the nodal responsibility of coordinating the National Mission on Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem. To achieve the objectives of NMSHE, this online knowledge portal aims to promote interactions amongst research institutes, community level organisations and other stakeholder engaged in the work relating to the Himalayan ecosystem.

This pan-Himalayan knowledge repository includes compilation of data and information available from various sources. This information and knowledge repository will address the long standing challenge of low accessibility to data and information from the Himalayas for researchers and practitioners on one hand and policy relevant knowledge for decision makers on the other hand.

Development of the Portal

The portal has been conceptualised by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India through their Climate Change Programme (CCP)- SPLICE, by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) through their Indian Himalayas Climate Adaptation Programme (IHCAP), and by the Development Alternatives (DA) Group.

The portal has been designed and developed by the Development Alternatives (DA) Group, an organisation with expertise and experience on providing web based solutions through dedicated web portal development projects for its own programs and websites at national and regional levels.
