Climate Vulnerability Assessment for Adaptation Planning in India Using a Common Framework

The report captures the key results of the set of joint activities which were taken up with Indian State and Union Territory Governments. The findings of the report are unique because it is the first time that all the Indian States and Union Territories have come together to apply the same framework and use a common set of indicators. The report helps in better understanding the climate vulnerability of various regions of India and thereby seeks to strengthen adaptation planning and prioritization.

This synthesis report brings together the various components from the pilot study on climate vulnerability, hazards and risk, completed for Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. The report introduces an integrated assessment framework, highlights key findings, discusses the main learnings and implications for climate change adaptation and disaster-risk reduction in Kullu district, and provides perspectives for transferring the methodological approaches to the broader IHR. The report therefore provides a robust scientific basis for planning, developing, and implementing adaptation solutions, which should proceed in close cooperation with, and full engagement of local stakeholders.

Understanding The Synergy Between National Mission For Sustaining The Himalayan Ecosystem And SAPCCs From Himalayan States

The report examines the National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE) in detail and explores its linkages with the Himalayan State Action Plans on Climate Change (SAPCCs). The report also seeks to answer a key question – How much scope there is for the states in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) to leverage NMSHE? It provides brief summaries of the extent to which the Himalayan SAPCCs articulate links to NMSHE. Analytical observations, key points and open questions are included as part of the report.

Comparative Analyses Of SAPCCs From Himalayan States

The report compares different aspects of the State Action Plans on Climate Change (SAPCCs) such as the climate profile, vulnerability assessments, sector-wise climate change strategies and climate change action plans in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR). It also examines SAPCCs in relation to the National Missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) and the relative degree of linkages articulated in IHR SAPCCs.

Emission Inventory of CO2 in Jammu and Kashmir A Sectoral Analysis

Jammu and Kashmir is one of the few States in the country to join the States having conducted inventory of Green House Gases. This is the first report prepared using 2013- 14 activity data. This assessment provides information on Jammu and Kashmir’s emissions of Green House Gases (Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4) and Nitrous Oxide (N2O) emitted from anthropogenic activities at state level from: Energy; Industry; Agriculture; Waste; and Land Use Land Use Change & Forestry (LULUCF). Existing GHG emissions have been analyzed by sector and sub-sectors (viz; Transport, Buildings, Industry, Waste, Agriculture and Forest)

Climate Modelling for Himachal Pradesh

The economy of the State is dependent on sectors like the hydel power generation, horticulture, agriculture, forestry and tourism etc. and these sectors are assumed to be under threat in the present scenario of changing climate. Any change in these sectors due to climate change, in every likelihood, will not only going to affect the livelihood prospects in the agrarian economies of mountain regions, but also everyone living below in the plains.
