Partnership with ICIMOD on Regional Cooperation in Himalayan Ecosystem

One of its objectives of National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE) is to develop regional cooperation framework with countries bordering the Himalayan region. Efforts are being made to enrol International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) into NMSHE.

ICIMOD is a multi-lateral organization based in Kathmandu, Nepal, working on regional knowledge development and learning centre serving several countries of the Himalayas such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan. ICIMOD aims to assist mountain people to understand the changes caused due to climate change, adapt to them, and make the new opportunities while addressing upstream-downstream issues. Several institutions of Government of India are already working closely with ICIMOD on environment related issues. ICIMOD has shown keen interest in working with DST and have expressed desire to be a knowledge partner in the National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem. Further discussion with ICIMOD to finalise a Regional Cooperation Framework is underway.
